Welcome to our web site!

Are you being denied your grandchildren?  Have you been told that you don't have any rights in Iowa or that the laws don't support your rights in Iowa?

This organization was created to support the efforts of grandparents who are tired of being shoved aside by their state government and out of their grandchildrens lives by attorneys, the Department of Human Services, divorce, step-parents, new live-ins, fueds in the family etc.

Here you can vent, get support from other members going through the same thing, get email and physical addresses of your state representatives and their phone numbers.  I am currently trying to build a list of attorneys who would be interested in taking cases regarding Grandparents Rights in Iowa.

Iowa Grandparents Rights Organization is an idea that I developed after watching my own parents be denied two grandchildren because of divorce.  My younger brother was denied his visitation by his ex-wife and since she moved to another district the courts would not uphold his visitation rights and she was still in the state of Iowa.  My parents did not have the funds to fight in court.  My father did not live long enough to see either child again.  Their grandchild was only four the last time they both saw him and he was seventeen when he finally met his grandmother again.

The same thing happened to my in-laws when their son divorced and again I watched as it tore a family apart.  The last straw was when my own daughter tried to deny me my granddaughter.  I had had enough and decided something must be done.  I went online, searched records, contacted the Department of Human Services, consulted with attorneys, etc until I came across the knew Iowa Grandparents Rights laws that were added to our Iowa laws in March of 2007.  That was a great month for Iowa grandparents but I soon discovered that was also one of the best kept secrets in Iowa.  Attorneys were not aware of it, DHS thought it was horrible and still stands behind the rights of the parents over the rights of any grandparents and unfortunatly our own court judges treat our grandparents rights like a joke.

As an organization to further our rights I want to put our cause back in the spotlight, back in the newspapers, and back in the publics eyes.  If we don't fight for our rights we can lose them!
